Care for Linen Fabrics and Products
Washing:
Linen can be washed by hand, machine, or dry cleaned. Bleaching agents are suitable for white linen, but colored fabric should be washed with mild detergents or gentle soap. Chlorine-containing bleaches are not recommended as they can damage the fabric structure. If the water used for washing is hard, it is advisable to add a softener, especially when washing darker fabrics. Never wash dark and light fabrics together. If using a machine, avoid overloading it so that the linen product can move freely; otherwise, it may become streaked.
Drying:
Linen can be dried in a dryer or naturally. After washing, linen will be wrinkled, so it is recommended to hang the washed and lightly wrung fabric properly to prevent further wrinkling. It is not advisable to dry linen products in direct sunlight. Mechanical drying causes linen to dry quickly and can easily over-dry, so it is recommended to choose a lower drying temperature.
Ironing:
Linen fabrics are best ironed when they are still slightly damp; this ensures better ironing and eliminates the need for additional moisture. It is recommended to iron from the wrong side of the fabric to protect the linen surface from smoothness, glossiness, and color fading. The highest ironing temperature is 200°C. If the product is completely dry, it is advisable to lightly moisten it with water before ironing. Linen wrinkles easily but is also easy to iron. Wrinkles in linen are considered a sign of authenticity and high quality.
Storage:
It is recommended to store linen products in a dry, well-ventilated space. Avoid keeping them in plastic bags or cardboard boxes; instead, opt for specialized garment bags. By following these simple guidelines, linen products can last for many years while preserving their beauty and quality.
